Office Hours
Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30p.m.

Sunday Morning Parking
When you arrive on Sunday morning, you may choose to park in one of three main lots. Two of these will be to your left and right as you enter at the front of the building. These lots fill up quickly so you may wish to arrive 15 minutes before the service starts to find a spot. The third parking lot is located behind the building and is convenient for parents with children – our Children’s Ministry volunteers will be there to help you find Sunday school classrooms and the nursery.

Handicap parking is located along both sides of the building.

On many special occasions (Christmas, Easter) parking lot attendants will help you navigate the lots, and shuttle buses will take you to and from satellite parking areas.

Worship Services
We have two main Sunday morning services, Worship Alive at 9:30 a.m. and Live at Eleven at 11:00 a.m. These two services take place in the main auditorium. The style of worship at the first service draws on elements from the vibrant history of traditional worship, including a balanced mix of hymns and choruses, and a variety of instruments – from organ to guitar. At Live at Eleven, a praise band and singers will lead you in contemporary singing. Each service is generally 60 minutes long and includes worship through song, prayer, and giving, as well as a teaching time. The first Sunday of the month, we celebrate the Lord’s Table together.

We also have a number of Sunday morning services and programs for children, youth, and seniors:

Worship Alive Kids (Sunday School, birth to grade 5) – 9:30 a.m. in various classrooms
Live at Eleven Kids (Kids Worship, grades K-5) – 11:00 a.m. in the downstairs LCS gym

Bitz (Youth Hang Time, grades 6-12) – 10:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall
Metamorphosis (Youth Worship, grades 6-12) – 11:00 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall

Big Groups (Adult Education) – 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. in various rooms
The Gathering (55+ Fellowship) – 10:30 a.m. in room 144

Ushering and Touchpoint Ministry
Hosts at the auditorium doors will hand you a bulletin that outlines the order of service for the day. These men and women can also help you find a place to sit on one of our comfortably cushioned pews.

At the end of each service, a team of men and women wearing red lanyards are available for prayer or encouragement. These safe and caring individuals are part of our TouchPoint team.  You can meet them at the front of the auditorium, near the stage.

Dress

Our church family is large and its members are of a wide range of ages and backgrounds. The pastors and worship leaders usually dress in conservative ‘business casual’ attire on stage, but you’ll find people at Grant dressed in everything from blue jeans to business suits.

Welcome Centre
On your first visit, we invite you to stop by our Welcome Centre, located in room 155. From 9:15 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., our friendly volunteers will be there to answer your questions about Grant, and you can enjoy some coffee and refreshments.

Grant Central
Feeling lost? Stop at Grant Central, prominently located in the front foyer. Our volunteers will point you in the right direction. At Grant Central you’ll also find the Event Guide, a regularly updated guide to life in our community.

Comment Cards
Near the start of each service, Auditorium Hosts will pass out comment cards. If you’d like us to send you information on any of our ministry areas, fill out a card and drop it in the offering basket. There is also a place for your comments or prayer requests.

GMBC Receives $20,000 Grant from The Winnipeg Foundation
The Winnipeg Foundation has awarded Grant Memorial a $20,000 grant in recognition of the excellent work that City Church (through City Connexions) is doing among newcomers in the inner city. This generous, above average grant will be used to administer and manage greater volunteer involvement in City Connexions programs.
City Connexions currently provides EAL classes, homework clubs, a host family program, a youth drop-in centre, an eye clinic for the working poor, furniture distribution, assistance in employment, housing and other practical needs.

HOST FAMILY PROGRAM
The program is designed to establish cross-cultural relationships between families from City Church and families from Grant Memorial Baptist Church. The program matches together two families that agree to meet together once every two weeks over a six month period. The goal is to create deep and long-lasting relationships that help refugee families adjust to their new home.

CITY CHURCH HISTORY
Throughout the 2008 ministry year, Pastor Tom Castor and the deacons of Grant Memorial discussed both the desire to plant a church and a growing conviction that our mission needed to target the widows, orphans, the poor and the strangers. We were particularly drawn to the area bounded by Portage Avenue to the south, Notre Dame to the north, Arlington to the west and Hargrave to the east which is the neighbourhood most heavily populated by refugees and immigrants. We began talking with the owner of the former First English Lutheran Church at 484 Maryland Street as a possible base of operation for a church plant. Over a period of a few months, numerous conversations took place with Tim Nielsen and Indiana Cungcin, two gentlemen already active in intercultural ministry in this neighbourhood.

Tim and Indy were elders at the Maples Community Church and had played a significant role in building an effective cross-cultural ministry in that church. They began discussions with their elder board about the possibility of playing a role in the planting of an intercultural church in the core of Winnipeg in cooperation with Grant Memorial. On April 13, 2008, the elders at the Maples Community Church extended their blessing to Tim Nielsen and Indiana Cungcin to leave the Maples Community Church to become part of the leadership team that would plant this new congregation.

City Church held its first services in September of 2008.

The goal for City Church is that it becomes a healthy, vibrant, intentionally intercultural congregation in the core area of Winnipeg with a dynamic leadership team and an effective governance model that will impact the city of Winnipeg for decades to come.
